Georgia Southern makes its 23rd NCAA Golf Championship appearance May 14-16, as the Eagles travel to Noblesville, Indiana, to compete in the 14-team regional field at The Sagamore Club.
Eighty-one teams and 45 individuals have been selected to compete at six regional sites. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla., May 29-June 3.
Georgia Southern received the Sun Belt Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship by winning the league title April 21, at Raven Golf Club in Destin, Fla. It was the Eagles' ninth conference championship (4 TAAC, 4 Southern Conference, 1 Sun Belt).
It's the 12th NCAA Regional appearance for Georgia Southern under Director of Golf Larry Mays and the sixth in men's coach Carter Collins' eight-year tenure on the coaching staff.
It's Georgia Southern's sixth NCAA Championship appearance in the last seven seasons. The Eagles placed eighth at the San Antonio Regional at Briggs Ranch last season. Georgia Southern won the SoCon Tournament in 2011 and 2014 and received at-large bids in 2009, 2010 and 2013. Georgia Southern made six consecutive NCAA Championship appearances from 2001-06.
The Eagles will compete on the par-72, 7,173-yard Sagamore Golf Club course. It's the first time Georgia Southern has played in an NCAA Regional in the state of Indiana.
Georgia Southern competed against three teams in its field in previous tournaments this season - Alabama, East Carolina and Marquette.
The Eagles posted their best regional finish in 2010, tying for fourth at the Capital City Club Crabapple Course.
Scott Wolfes shot a 67 Monday at Amelia National Golf and Country Club in U.S. Open local qualifying. He advances to Sectional Qualifying at a site to be determined in early June. Archer Price shot a 70 at the same course and won a playoff for the second alternate spot.
The Eagles arrived in Indiana Tuesday morning and played a round at Wolf Run Golf Club Tuesday afternoon. Matt Mierzejewski made a hole-in-one on the 248-yard, par-3 13th hole with a 3 iron.
Georgia Southern is paired with Virginia Tech and Colorado and will tee off hole 1 at 8:55 a.m. in Thursday's opening round.
