Eagles Open Season With Win at Golfweek Fall Challenge

Five Eagles place in top five
PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. - The Georgia Southern men's golf team opened up its 2026-27 season in the exact same fashion it did a year ago: with a team win at the Golfweek Fall Challenge. The Eagles repeated as champions, shooting a 26-under-par 838 (272-279-287) to blitz the field and win by nine strokes of second-place Troy.
In the opening round, the Eagles came out strong, firing a 269 with 35 birdies from their seven players to take a nine-shot lead over fellow Sun Belt competitor Troy. Erik Erlenkeuser, making his collegiate debut, shot a 67 with seven birdies while Thomas Horne also fired a 67 with six birdies. Harrison Sewell and Trace Carter both posted 68s with six birdies apiece and both Morgan Blythe (70) and Pierce Adamson (71) were under par for the day.
In round two, the Eagles widened that lead to 16 strokes over the Trojans with a 279 and 26 more birdies. Sewell led the second round with a clean card, using five birdies to post a 67. He was the only Eagle in the 60s that day, but five of the other six Southern players finished at par or below. Blythe shot a 70 for the second day in a row with Erlenkeuser and Horne posting 71s and both Elijah Zamarron and Carter shooting 72s.
Adamson went low on the final day, shooting a 65 thanks to seven birdies and an eagle. Carter (eight birdies) and Blythe (six birdies) both shot 68s while Zamarron posted an even-par 72.
Blythe, Sewell and Carter all finished tied for third while Adamson (T9), Erlenkeuser (T11) and Horne (T17) both posted top-20 finishes.
NOTES
• Four players finished in the top 10 and six finished in the top 20.
• It maked the first time the team repeated as tournament champions since winning three straight Colleton River Collegiate from 2021-23.
• Adamson's 65 was a career low, surpassing a 69 he shot twice as a freshman. It's the sixth-lowest single-round score in program history.
• The opening-round 272 is the eighth lowest single-round team score in program history.
• The 838 team score is 11th-lowest three-round team score in program history.

The weather was calm in Round 1 and the course was very gettable but the team faced heavy winds in Rounds 2 and 3.
