STATESBORO, Ga. – Due to expected thunderstorms for most of the day and evening Saturday, the Georgia Southern baseball team will now play a doubleheader against the ULM Warhawks on Friday.
First pitch in the series has been bumped up to 4:30 p.m. on Friday and game two in the series will take place 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one. Sunday's series finale remains a 1 p.m. start.
The baseball and softball teams will also honor the five Georgia Southern University Nursing students that passed away and the two that were injured in the car wreck on Interstate 16 on Wednesday during their weekend series.
Both teams will have a moment of silence before their games this weekend and will wear stickers on their batting helmets with the School of Nursing logo. The fields will have the words GSU Strong painted behind both home plates.
Due to the change in schedule, Local Heroes Day will now be honored at all three games in the series. All police officers, firefighters, EMS and first responders will receive a free general admission ticket with ID. Family members attending with them can purchase a discounted ticket at $5.
