Troy Takes Saturday Softball Doubleheader Over the Eagles

Morgan Robinson drives in all four runs for the Eagles on the day

STATESBORO, GA. – Georgia Southern's homecoming to start the stretch run got off to a sour note on Saturday as the Eagles fell twice at the hands of Troy. The Trojans won the doubleheader 7-1 and 7-3. The Eagles and Trojans close the three-game set on Sunday at Noon.

"I didn't feel like we played badly today, but we just lost a few innings," said Head Coach Annie Smth. "Troy has a good team and was able to get some good hits when they needed them. Morgan Robinson drove in some runs for us today. Her home run in game two really helped us get back in the game. We've got another chance to compete on Sunday, so we're looking forward to that."

GAME ONE – GS 1 – TROY 7

Troy got an early march on the Eagles with a run in the first, but Georgia Southern was able to answer in the third with a game-tying run. Two walks with two outs in the third opened the door for the Eagles to steal a run with Morgan Robinson's RBI single to center and tie the game at 1-1.

A leadoff triple to open the fourth paved the way for a four-run frame and a 5-1 lead for the Trojans in the middle of the fourth. A two-run home run in the fifth extended the lead to 7-1.

GAME TWO – GS 3 – TROY 7

Troy opened game two of the doubleheader with two runs in the opening frame, plating the first off a single to the gap in center and the second via a bases loaded walk. The visitors tacked on three more in the third to post a 5-0 lead through two and a half innings.

Robinson got the Eagles off the mark in game two with a towering three-run home run to right in the home half of the third. It was the third homer of the season for the Georgia Southern first baseman and cut the advantage to 5-3.

Troy, however, took advantage of a pair of Georgia Southern errors in the fourth to plate two more runs and extend the lead to 7-3. The Eagles had just one runner reach base in their final four trips to the plate, and dropped the tilt, 7-3.

Georgia Southern will get a chance to salvage the final game of the series on Sunday at Noon. Admission to Eagle Field is free with the game available on GS All-Access at GSEagles.com
