Sun Belt Conference Championship CentralĀ
New Orleans, La. ā The Georgia Southern Women's Tennis Team saw their historical season come to a close in the Sun Belt Conference Quarterfinal round as they fell 1-4 to University of Louisiana ā Monroe. Ā The Eagles' (10-8) lone point was earned by Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year,
Anne Kurzweil who ended her freshman campaign undefeated in the spring season.
"Even though we knew that today would be a tough match, the results were definitely unexpected," said Head Coach
Michele Stanford. Ā "We played some tough singles matches, and unfortunately, we weren't able to take the 4 points necessary to move forward in to the next round. Ā It's always difficult to experience a conference tournament loss, but I remain proud of our team for all of the hard work they put in this year. Ā They overcame a lot as a team both on and off the court."
With poor weather looming, the match was amended to the ITA shortened format meaning singles would be contested first, with doubles played if necessary.
In the No. 4 position,
Giulia Riepe fell to Sophie Rufyikiri 2-6, 1-6 and teammate
Daria Vasekina was defeated by Jana Duhanova 1-6, 0-6 to give UL-Monroe an early 2-0 lead.

"I would like to thank our senior,
Jordana Klein, for all of her dedication to this team. Ā She is going to be greatly missed next year, but she will always remain a part of the Eagle tennis family," concluded Stanford.Ā
