STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern baseball team shaved their heads following an 8-1 win at J.I. Clements Stadium on Saturday in support of the fight against cancer.
The Eagles participated in the Vs. Cancer Fundraiser, which strives to fund cancer research and support children's hospitals. Baseball teams across the country participate by raising funds online and shaving their heads at a game.
GS surpassed their goal of $6,000 and raised $6,517.22, half of which will be donated to a local children's hospital.
"A lot of people have been affected by cancer, and coach Green is a cancer survivor. I am proud of our guys for raising the funds, and I really appreciate everybody that has given to this cause," Head Coach Rodney Hennon said.
The baseball team will be back in action tomorrow at noon against UT Arlington.
