Boone, Nc. – The Eagles suffered defeat at the hands of rival Appalachian State Tuesday 0-7. The lone victory on the day came at No. 1 doubles, however, to earn the 1 doubles point at stake, teams must win 2 out of 3 matches.
"We had another tough contested doubles point," said Head Coach Alexander Koning. "It came down to 1 or 2 points and unfortunately, they went the other way today. In singles, we fought hard as a team, but App State handled the adversityon and off the court better than us today. We will learn from this and use it to our advantage in our next match."
At No. 1 doubles,
Ristomatti Lanne and
Albert Codina Sala defeated Zach Bost and Jan-Willem Kleynhaus 8-4. The No. 2 tandem of
Kyle Hoffman and
Jose Landin fell to Jack Maddocks and Scott Webster 4-8.
Christian Kerrigan and
Joan Carles Alcala fell to Oliver Casey and Trey Morris 7-9 at No. 3.
Lanne was setback by Casey 6-7, 7-6 (5-7) while Codina Sala fell to Maddocks 6-7 (4-7), 5-7.
Hoffman was bounced by Webster 1-6, 4-6 and Kerrigan lost to Bost 4-6, 6-3, 2-6.
Alcala was defeated by Kleynhaus 3-6, 4-6 and teammate
Nico de Groof fell to Morris 2-6, 6-2, 5-7.
