Getting To Know The Redshirt Senior Guard From Miramar, Florida
Statesboro, Ga. – Through 22 games this season, Jelani Hewitt leads the team in scoring. All told, he's scored 398 points for the Eagles, averaging 19 points per contest. In the spirit of the game "20 Questions," let's get to know the Redshirt Senior Guard from Miramar, Florida a little better.

1. Who got you in to the game of basketball when you were young?
My dad got me in to the game of basketball. At first, he tried to make me play baseball, but it wasn't fun for me. Then we tried basketball at the age of 8 and I have loved the game ever since.
2. If you could start your own professional NBA team, what would be the name of the team and why?
I would name the team "Shima Roses" after my cousin.
3. What would the team colors be?
The colors would be White and Purple. Purple was my cousin's favorite color.
4. What is your idea of the perfect pre-game meal?
The perfect pre game meal would be some chicken alfredo with cheese biscuits.
5. Who on the team are you closest with?
I'm close to everybody on the team….probably closest to Eric Ferguson though because I've known him since I got here.
6. What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?
On my days off I like to get up some shots in the gym on my own, then after just relax and watch college basketball.
7. What are the first three songs on your pre-game playlist?
Love Yourz by J Cole, The Rulers Back by Jay Z, and BMJR by Lil' Wayne
8. If you weren't playing basketball, what other sport would you play?
Hmmm, maybe soccer or football!
9. You and "Gus" are stranded on an island, what is your plan to be rescued?
Gus and I will build a fire big enough that somebody will have to see it….but if nobody does, then it may be Gus for dinner **sad face**
10. What's your go to dance move?
THE WHIP!!!
11. What is the biggest rivalry in the Sun Belt?
Georgia Southern vs. "the team from Atlanta" HAIL SOUTHERN!
12. When you pull up for a 3, what is going through your mind?
That it's going in every time
13. Name a teammate who has tons of potential and tell us why?
Mike Hughes, he is a hard worker and plays with a lot of energy and effort. If he continues to work on his game he's going to be REALLY good!
14. Who is the funniest person on the team?
Angel Matias, the way he tells jokes with his accent is hilarious
15. What makes Coach Byington the type of coach you love to play for?
He lets you play stress free basketball which is any basketball player's dream. He teaches instead of yelling and chewing you out.
16. What are you majoring in and what is your favorite class?
Sports Management. My favorite class is Technology of Sport, it's really fun. I like learning about different things we use during games or training to help improve our athletes daily.
17. What do you want to do after your playing time at Georgia Southern?
I want to play professional basketball, then when that's over I want to coach college basketball.
18. Before the game do you like to get hyped with the team, or do you prefer to keep it calm and do your own thing?
I prefer to calm down and listen to my music.
19. What would you like to say to the fans who have sold out Hanner Fieldhouse on multiple occasions this season?
I just want to thank them for making my senior year that much better! We need their support and for them to stand behind us is a big deal to me, so thank you guys so much for that!
