STATESBORO, Ga. - For the first time in history, Georgia Southern is headed to an NCAA postseason bowl game, as announced Sunday afternoon. Georgia Southern (8-4) will meet Bowling Green (10-3), champions of the  Mid-American Conference, in the GoDaddy Bowl at 7 p.m. Central (8 p.m. Eastern) on Wednesday, Dec. 23 in the 33,471-seat Ladd-Peebles Stadium. The game will be televised nationally by ESPN.

"We're excited to be playing in the first bowl in Georgia Southern history," said Georgia Southern head coach Willie Fritz. "I've heard nothing but great things about the GoDaddy Bowl and we're looking forward to getting over there and experiencing what a bowl game at the Division I level is all about."

The GoDaddy Bowl will mark the first football meeting between GS and Bowling Green. The two teams have one common opponent this season in Western Michigan. The Eagle beat WMU 43-17 while the Falcons bested the Broncos 41-27.

Georgia Southern leads the nation in rushing yards per game while Bowling Green is third in the country in passing yards per game, fourth in total yards per game and fifth in scoring offense.

"We're extremely honored and excited to play in the GoDaddy Bowl and would like to thank bowl president Jerry Silverstein and executive director Frank Modarelli for inviting us to play in their bowl" said Tom Kleinlein, Georgia Southern Director of Athletics. "This bowl opportunity is the result of the hard work by our players, Coach Fritz, his staff, the University and the fans. Obviously, this bowl has special meaning to us as it's our first bowl game ever, so I know all of Eagle Nation is excited to show up in Mobile and to be a part of Georgia Southern history."
