Men's tennis competes at the Mercer Gridiron Tournament this weekend

Four players battle in the three-day tournament
STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern men's tennis team heads to Macon, Georgia this weekend to compete in the Mercer Gridiron Invitational from Oct. 9-11. Two freshmen, Adam Brown and Andre Johnson represent the Blue and White alongside juniors Chris Kerrigan and Nico de Groof.
WHO PLAYS WHO
-Johnson (No. 1) receives a bye the first round and plays Arnav Mohanty of Mercer at 10:30 a.m. on Friday.
-Kerrigan (No. 2) plays Antonio Pejic of Norfolk State University at 8 a.m. on Friday.
-de Groof (No. 3) faces Oscar Soderlund of Florida Southern at 8 a.m. on Friday.
-Brown has a bye the first round but then takes on Corrie Pickering of SCAD at 11:30 a.m.
-The Johnson/Kerrigan duo (No. 1 doubles) goes against Banks and Sheller of College of Coastal Georgia after a bye round.
-Brown/de Grof (No. 2 doubles) goes head to head with Dunn/Law of CCG.
LAST TIME OUT
Freshmen Johnson and Brown both picked up one win a piece in their first collegiate tournament at the Charlotte Invitational. Johnson took over the No. 4 spot and defeated David Sklar of Wofford 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 after losing to Sam Rice of Charlotte. Brown alternated between the No. 6 and 7 spots and dropped his first and third matches but bested Carl Solik of Charlotte 6-1, 6-4.
Kerrigan and de Groof make their season debuts this weekend for the Eagles.

"We're ready to fight. We have a lot of matches the first day and I think we're one of the teams who are best contenders to be winning all those matches because of all of the training we've been doing."
On playing his first tournament of the season this weekend
"I think this tournament will be a good chance to see where I am, to see where I need to improve. I'm looking forward to it. I'm looking forward to be playing other people."
