The Eagles open the season with an exhibition game Nov. 5 in Hanner.
STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern sophomore guard Mike Hughes has been named fourth-team preseason All-Sun Belt by College Sports Madness, it was announced today.
Hughes started all 31 games as a freshman and averaged 7.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 30.3 minutes a contest. He ranked second on the team in assists (70), steals (40) and minutes (30.3/gm).
Georgia Southern posted a 22-9 record and advanced to the Sun Belt Championship title game in 2014-15. It was the Eagles' first 20-win season since 2005-06 and their first appearance in their conference championship game since the 1992 Southern Conference title contest.
The Eagles return two starters in Hughes and Jake Allsmiller along with six lettermen from last year's team. Three student-athletes who redshirted as freshman last season – Shawn O'Connell, Aubrey McRae and Jonathan Sanks - will make their debuts this year.
