
Eagles Race to Victory, Beat Marshall in Huntington for First Time

HUNTINGTON, W Va. – Behind three 20-point scorers and a furious 13-2 run over the final two minutes of action, Georgia Southern men's basketball (16-15, 8-10 SBC) defeated Marshall (19-12, 11-7 SBC), 99-82, at the Cam Henderson Center in Huntington, West Virginia.
The victory over the Thundering Herd on the road, was the first in program history for the Eagles, as the Blue and White scored 61 second-half points to down the Herd. Tyren Moore led all Eagles on the floor, scoring 26 points on 8-for-15 shooting, including 8-for-12 from beyond the arc. That tally ties a career high, a mark he set against Marshall at the Jack and Ruth Ann Hill Convocation center two weeks ago.
Alden Applewhite was the second Eagle with 20-plus points, tallying 23, one shy of his career high. Nakavieon White posted a 7-for-11 evening, including a perfect 4-for-4 night from beyond the arc to collect his 20 points. Khayri Dunn chipped in 11 points off the bench, as Georgia Southern outscored the Herd 38-17 from the reserves.
As a squad, the Blue and White shot 53.2 percent from the field and a smooth 50 percent from three-point range. Additionally, Georgia Southern shot 83.3 percent from the free throw stripe, the 18th time shooting 70-plus percent from the line.

- Georgia Southern opened the scoring and pushed its lead to six points, before Marshall came storming back to level the contest at the second media timeout of the first half, 18-18.
- Marshall took its first lead of the game at the final media timeout of the first half, using an 8-0 run to collect its largest lead of four, before the Eagles cut the deficit to one point, 34-33.
- Tyren Moore drained a three-pointer from the corner with less than 10 seconds remaining in the half, to send the Eagles into the break trailing by two points, 40-38. The Eagles finished the half shooting 48 percent from the field, including 26 of their 38 total points in the paint.
- Georgia Southern used an 8-0 run in the span of 45 seconds to regain the lead out of the half, as Tyren Moore drained back-to-back triples, 52-49.
- Both sides continued to trade baskets, before Marshall grabbed a two-point lead at the under-eight-minute media timeout, 69-67.
- A 6-0 run by the Eagles, led by Nakavieon White, gave Georgia Southern a five-point advantage at the final media timeout of the contest, 78-73.
- Georgia Southern used a 13-2 run to close out the contest, sweeping Marshall for the first time in program history, 99-82.

- The Eagles shot a season-high 50 percent from beyond the arc, knocking down 13-of-26 shots, including Moore's eight consecutive makes from beyond the arc after missing his first four shots.
- Tyren Moore put on a show against the Herd for the second time this season, tying a career high with eight made threes in the contest.
- Nakavieon White did his best "Bruce Morris" impression on Friday, scoring 20 points on 7-for-11 shooting, including a perfect 4-for-4 day from deep. White added two made free throws, four rebounds, and two assists.
