BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Ariana Macioce backed up her 74 in the first round by carding another 2-over-par 74 in today's second round at Keith Hills Golf Club and is tied for third at the Fighting Camel Fall Classic.
Macioce (+4) is tied with Stetson's Giulia Vandenberg, two strokes behind Campbell's Nadine White (+2), who is in second place. Mercer's Mary Janiga (+1) leads the tournament. Macioce's 74 was the fourth-lowest on the course today.
Yeji Shinn carded a 79 today, and Iben Hvass posted an 81. Taylor Thompson and Ansley Bowman each shot 88. The Eagles are in 11th place but just five strokes out of fifth. Western Carolina (+54), Northern Illinois, Stetson and Eastern Kentucky are all tied for sixth, and Georgia State (+56) is in 10th.
The story
Macioce got off to another good start with a birdie on the first hole, and a birdie on hole 9 gave the freshman an even-36 at the turn. She logged a birdie and three bogeys on the back and parred her final two holes. Shin was 2-over through her first eight holes after posting consecutive birdies on holes 5 and 6. She recorded six pars and three bogeys on the back nine.
Quotable from Coach Emily Kuhfeld
"Today's conditions were very similar to yesterday - chilly and some tucked pins. Even after today's round, we are only 10 shots out of second place. Ariana had another solid round and is in great position individually. We are looking forward to coming out strong tomorrow and keeping our focus on what we can control."
Next Up
The Eagles tee off at 9 a.m. in a shotgun start tomorrow and will be paired with Marshall and Georgia State. Georgia Southern will start on holes 10-13.
