BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Georgia Southern senior Scott Wolfes (-3) fired a 69-72=141 and is tied for fifth after the first two rounds of the Shoal Creek Invitational Monday at Shoal Creek Country Club.

The Eagles are in seventh place, seven strokes behind Ole Miss (+4) and Memphis (+4), which are tied for fourth, and one stroke ahead of Southeastern Louisiana (+10).

Two-time defending national champion Alabama (-10) leads the field, followed by North Florida (-4) and tournament host UAB (-2). Central Florida (+6) is in sixth.

Matt Mierzejewski (+3) and Henry Mabbett (+3) are tied for 22nd as the duo both carded 74-73=147. Charlie Martin (+7) posted a 74-77=151, and Archer Price (+8) carded a 76-76=152. Kim Koivu (+6), who is playing as an individual this week, shot 78-72=150.

Tom Lovelady (-8) of Alabama leads the tournament, followed by Cory Gaylord (-5) of Memphis and Joey Petronio (-5) of North Florida.

"We had lots of long stretches of good golf today but didn't quite finish off our rounds," said Georgia Southern Director of Golf Larry Mays. "We leaked a little at the end of both rounds. We fought all day, and if we can clean up just a couple of shots tomorrow, we should be able to move up the leaderboard."

Wolfes, who started both rounds on hole 10, ran off 11 straight pars to begin his first round before logging an eagle on the par-5, 520-yard third hole. He made birdie on hole 7 to post a bogey-free 69. He was 2-under after his first four holes of the second round, but bogeys on 14 and 18 left him even at the turn. He notched two birdies and two bogeys on the front nine for an even-par 72.

Mabbett, who teed off on hole 12, posted 14 pars in a row to begin his first round before getting a bogey on hole 8 and a double on hole 9. The junior parred hole 10 and finished with a birdie on hole 11 for a first round total of 74. He played the first 11 holes of his second round 1-under before a double bogey on the par-3 5th and a bogey on 8 pushed him to 2-over. He capped the round with a birdie for a 73.

Mierzejewski teed off hole 11 and played his first 13 holes at 1–under before bogeying three of his last five holes for a first-round total of 74. The senior was 2-over after his first eight holes of his second round and posted two birdies and a bogey from there to finish with a 73.

Martin started on hole 10 and played his first nine at 1-under with three birdies and two bogeys. The senior got into a bit of trouble after the turn and was 3-over through 17 before birdieing his final hole for a first-round 74. Two double bogeys cost him in the second round as he tied the team lead with four birdies but finished 5-over.

Price started on hole 13 and was even through his first 14 holes, but the freshman struggled coming in. He double bogeyed hole 9, recovered with a birdie on hole 11 but then carded a triple bogey on 12, his final hole of the round. A double bogey on hole 18 of his second round put the freshman at 3-over, and he played his next six holes even with two birdies and two bogeys. He finished the round with three straight pars after a bogey on hole 9 for a 76.

Koivu started on hole 18 and was 1-over with two bogeys and a birdie on his first nine holes. The senior played his next five holes 4-over before getting a birdie on hole 14. He bogeyed 15 and 16 to finish with a first-round 78. He posted four birdies and four bogeys in round two for an even-par 72.

Final round action is set for tomorrow, and the Eagles will be paired with Southeastern Louisiana and Liberty and tee off hole 10 at 9:24 a.m. (Eastern).
