Two Eagles Named Freshmen All-American

TUCSON, Ariz. - Ryan Cleveland and Garrett Chapman were named Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.
Cleveland hit .253 with a team-best 16 doubles and six home runs in 53 games at first base for Georgia Southern, who advanced to a NCAA Regional after winning the Southern Conference Tournament.
Chapman became the first Eagle since 1984 to lead the team in batting average. Chapman hit .341 with seven doubles and eight home runs. The freshman started in 59 of the team's 63 games and opened the season with a hit in 13-straight games.
Both were named to the Southern Conference's All-Freshman team and are the first GSU freshmen to receive the honor since Chase Griffin in 2012. A total of eight Eagles have been named Freshmen All-American since 1992.
Ball State's Zach Plesac was named Freshman Pitcher of The Year and Florida Gulf Coast's Jake Noll was selected the Freshman Player of The Year.
