STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern men's tennis team signed Daniel Casablancas to a letter of intent, and he will join the team for the upcoming fall season.
Casablancas, who hails from Sant Pere de Ribes, Spain, ranked as high as 218th in the Spanish Men's Open Rankings and has a career high ATP World Ranking of 1338.
Casablancas has had success in the ITF Futures circuit including a second place finish at the Spain F25 Futures in August 2013. He has been playing against some of the top up-and-coming talent on the ITF circuit since 2011.
"We are thrilled to be adding another player with experience and success in Futures events to our roster," head coach Nick Zieziula said. "Daniel has demonstrated a great deal of maturity in balancing his studies during a very difficult training and tournament schedule in Spain."
Daniel is transferring from Universitat Oberta de Catalunya in Spain and is the son of Louise and Antonio Casablancas.
The men's tennis team will begin the 2014-15 campaign with fall tournament play before opening the dual-match slate and Sun Belt Conference play in the spring.
