STATESBORO, Ga.- Georgia Southern women's tennis was defeated by #64 Furman today, 6-1, at the Wallis Tennis Center. The Eagles hold a 9-10 overall record and 3-5 in the SoCon.
The Paladins scored the doubles point by winning all three doubles matches. In singles play, Stephanie Woods was defeated by Karlee Bryde in the No. 4 spot, 6-1, 6-1. At No. 5, Giulia Riepe earned the Eagles' sole win by beating Kelly Sullivan, 6-3, 6-1. Daria Vasekina was defeated in the No. 3 position by Katherine Oudin, 6-1, 6-1. Jordana Klien lost to Alex Moreno-Kasteat No. 2, 6-2, 6-2. At No. 1 singles, senior Paola Garrido fell to Ansley Speaks, 6-3, 7-5. Mary Phillips Smith dropped to Blair Martin in the 6th singles position, 2-6, 6-0, 6-1.
The Eagles face Wofford on Thursday, April 10th at 3pm at the Wallis Tennis Center. It is the Eagles' last home match of the season, so there will be a short ceremony prior to the match honoring the seniors contributions to the program.
