STATESBORO, Ga.- Georgia Southern men's tennis fell to Elon 7-0 today at the Wallis Tennis Center. The Eagles now hold a 3-14 record overall and 2-4 in the SoCon.
In doubles play, the Eagles played tough, but the Phoenix earned the point. At No. 1 doubles, Nico DeGroof and Kyle Hoffman dropped to Jordan Kaufman and Cameron Silverman, 8-3. In the second doubles position, Christian Kerrigan and Oliver Webb battled Brian Kowalski and Robert Lindgren but fell, 8-5. Albert Codina Sala and Marco Osorio were defeated at the No. 3 spot by Juan Madrid and Stefan Fortmann, 8-4.
In singles competition, the Phoenix swept the Eagles in all 6 matches. Senior Oliver Webb was defeated by Cameron Silverman in the No. 1 position, 6-0, 6-1. Kyle Hoffman, in the No. 2 spot, dropped to Stefan Fortmann, 6-0, 6-1. At No. 3 singles, Marco Osorio fell in a tough tie breaker to Robert Lindgren, 6-2, 2-6, 11-9. Albert Codina Sala lost in the 4th singles position against Brian Kowalski, 6-3, 6-4. Nico DeGroof battled Jordan Kaufman and fell in straight sets, 7-6, 6-3. Rafael Racy was taken down by Juan Madrid, 6-2, 7-6.
The Eagles next competition is Sunday, March 30th, at 2pm at the Wallis Tennis Center against USC Upstate.
