STATESBORO, GA.- Georgia Southern women's tennis defeated Davidson 5-2 this afternoon at the Wallis Tennis Center. The Eagles improve their record to 7-9 overall and 3-4 in the SoCon.
The Eagles started off the match with two doubles wins. Giulia Riepe and Stephanie Woods defeated Nisha Crouser and Jenna Brunner, 8-1. Jordana Klein and Mary Phillips Smith overcame Tamara Hill Sarah Stein, 8-2. GSU had the 1-0 advantage entering into singles play.
At No. 1 singles, Paola Garrido took down Brites Moniz-Soares 6-4, 7-6, clinching the match for the Eagles. Jordana Klein was defeated by Elaina Cummer 6-7,6-2, 10-8 in the No. 2 position. Daria Vasekina fell to Nisha Crouser, 7-6, 3-6, 6-3. Stephanie Woods notched the win in the No. 4 spot, beating Sarah Stein 6-2, 6-0. Giulia Riepe defeated Jenna Brunner at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-7, 6-1. At No. 6 singles, Mary Phillips Smith defeated Tamara Hill, 6-4, 6-1.
The Eagles return to action on Monday, March 24th against University of Akron at the Wallis Tennis Center.
