CHARLESTON, SC.- Georgia Southern women's tennis was defeated by Massachusetts, 6-1, on Thursday afternoon at LTP Tennis Center. The Eagles' record drops to 6-9.
In doubles play, GSU fell in all three games. Paola Garrido and Caitlin Kitchen were defeated 8-3 in the No. 1 doubles spot. At No. 2 doubles, Giulia Riepe and Stephanie Woods dropped 8-5. Jordana Klein and Mary Phillips Smith were upset in the No. 3 doubles position, 8-6.
Senior Paola Garrido secured GSU's only win for the match in the first singles position. She handily beat Yuliana Motyl, 6-4, 6-4. At No. 2, Jordana Klien fell to Sonia Bokhari, 6-0, 6-0. Daria Vasekina (at No. 3 singles) was unable to secure the win against Aarzoo Malik, losing 6-3, 6-3. No. 4 Stephanie Woods suffered a loss against Arielle Griffin, 6-1, 6-0. UMass's Jessica Podlofsky defeated Eagle Giulia Riepe in the 5th singles spot, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4. In the No. 6 position, Mary Phillips Smith lost to Chanel Glasper, 6-4, 6-1.
The Eagles return to action on their home courts on Saturday, March 22, at 12pm against Davidson College.
