STATESBORO, Ga. - Stryker Brown was named the Southern Conference Player of the Month for February.
Brown hit .406 with three home runs and 16 RBI in nine contests last month. The senior outfielder hit safely in eight of the nine games and helped Georgia Southern finish with a 7-2 record in February.
The Dalton, Ga. native had four multi-hit games and opened the month by going three for five at Georgia. Brown was 2-for-4 with a homer and three driven in the next day as the Eagles won the series from the Bulldogs.
Brown went 6 for 13 with two homers and 10 RBI the next weekend in the Eagles' four-game sweep of Maryland Eastern Shore. He had consecutive 2-for-4 games in the series, with a first-inning grand slam in the team's 10-1 win on Feb. 22. Brown was named the SoCon player of the week on Feb. 24.
The award is the first for a GSU hitter since 2011. The Eagles nearly swept the monthly awards that season with Eric Phillips winning in March and Victor Roache winning in both April and May.
The Eagles open conference play on the road this weekend at the defending Southern Conference Tournament champions Elon. The series opens on Friday at 6 p.m.
