STATESBORO, Ga. – Taylor Hall registered 25 points, 11 rebounds and four steals and scored her 1,000th career point to lead Chattanooga to a 72-60 Southern Conference women's basketball victory over Georgia Southern Monday night in Hanner Fieldhouse.

Anna Claire Knight scored 19 points to lead Georgia Southern (7-15, 5-6), and Briana Jones notched 13 points and six rebounds. MiMi DuBose netted 14 points. Senior Danielle Spencer grabbed four rebounds to reach 500 for her career, becoming the 18th player in program history to reach the milestone.

Hall's 1,000th point came on a conventional 3-point play with 3:12 left in the game. The senior grabbed her own offensive rebound, laid it in and was fouled. She was 7-of-18 from the floor and 11-for-12 from the charity stripe in the game. Chelsey Shumpert chipped in 13 points, and Ka'Vonne Towns netted eight.

It was the 30th straight win against SoCon competition for the Mocs (19-3, 11-0) and their 14th consecutive win overall.

Georgia Southern held the Mocs to 11-of-29 from the floor and 2-for-11 from 3-point range in building a 30-28 lead at the break. It was the first time Chattanooga trailed at halftime in a SoCon game this season.

After Jones scored the first basket of the second frame, Chattanooga netted seven straight and took its first lead of the second half on a Shumpert triple from the wing. The teams traded baskets for the next three minutes before Shumpert scored 10 straight points in a 16-1 Moc run to take control of the contest.

Knight trimmed the margin to 12 with a 3-pointer from the wing with 4:12 to go, but Hall responded with her 3-point play for the Mocs. The Eagles got the margin to 11 twice in the final two minutes but could get no closer. Chattanooga finished the contest with 14 second-chance points and 25 points off of 18 Eagle turnovers.

"I thought we did a really good job defensively in the first half, and I thought offensively, we were in complete attack mode, making plays out  of our offense," said Georgia Southern coach Chris Vozab. "We had talked about needing our communication to be just as good in the second half on the defensive end, and there were some possessions where it took a dip, and they capitalized. We had some crucial possessions where we didn't finish – we missed a box out or were late getting to a shooter."

The Eagles were able to get 5-point leads on Chattanooga three times in the first frame, but the Mocs would not let GSU build a bigger margin. Georgia Southern scored four straight late in the first half to open a 28-24 lead, but Hall answered with four straight points for Chattanooga. Knight canned two free throws with two seconds left to give the Eagles their two-point cushion at the break.

Georgia Southern starts a three-game SoCon road swing at Elon Saturday. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m., and the game will be televised live on ESPN3.
