Storylines: The Georgia Southern Eagles take their six-game win streak and 7-1 record on the road to face the undefeated Mercer Bears on Wednesday. The Bears rank as the top team in RPI in the early going and are off to their best start in program history. A year ago Mercer reached an NCAA Regional for just the second time in program history after winning a regular season A-Sun title. Former teammates at Middle Georgia State College, Eric Alonzo (GSU) and Stephen Glaze (MER), and at Gordon State College; Aaron Mizell (GSU), Josh Wirsu (GSU) and Devin Bonin (MER), will meet on opposite teams Wednesday. The trip to Macon, Ga. will be the second for former Bears' pitcher Matt McCall. McCall earned the win in the March 12th meeting a year ago.

Ga. Southern: Georgia Southern is off to their best start since 2009, when they opened the year with an 11-1 record. The Eagles won 42 games, a SoCon Tournament title and were the #2 seed in the Fullerton Regional. Dalton Busby hit the team's 12th home run in the second inning of Sunday's Maryland-Eastern Shore series finale, their eighth game of the season. It took the Eagles 15 games to reach the 12 home run mark a year ago. In all eight Eagles have hit a long ball this season. A year ago only seven players hit a home run. The team is batting a SoCon-best .359 and is tops in the league in slugging percentage, on base percentage, runs, hits, RBI, doubles, home runs and is second in the conference with a 2.66 ERA.
Mercer: The Mercer Bears have jumped out to an 8-0 record behind the A-Sun's third-ranked offense and the second-best pitching staff in the league. The Bears opened the year with a sweep of High Point and won a pair of mid-week games against Florida A&M before sweeping last weekend's series against Evansville. Nick Backlund leads the team with a .467 average and is 14 for 30 on the season. Wednesday's game will be the last in a 10-game homestand.
Who's Hot: Stryker Brown was named the SoCon's Player of the Week after hitting .412 with a .882 slugging percentage in five games last week. Brown hit two home runs including a grand slam in the weekend series against UMES. ... Sasha LaGarde totaled 10 hits and 10 RBI over five games for Mercer last week and earned A-Sun Player of the Week honors after hitting .455 with three home runs in a 5-0 week.

Will Middour will appear in his first game since May 26, 2012 when he takes the mound Wednesday at Mercer. Middour posted a 3-3 record with a 3.60 ERA in 11 starts in 2012, but missed the entire 2013 season after having Tommy John Surgery. In his last start, Middour allowed two runs off of five hits and tossed six innings in a 10-7 win over Elon in the SoCon Tournament.
Georgia Southern Review
The Georgia Southern Eagles swept the four-game Maryland-Eastern Shore series over the weekend. Georgia Southern scored 50 runs to the Hawks' seven in the series and hit .362 on the weekend. The Eagles opened the series with a 23-0 win, their most runs since 2009, behind 23 hits, four home runs and Sam Howard's two-hit performance. GSU rallied from a 2-0 deficit in game two and won 9-3 after Ryan Cleveland hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first. The Eagles went on to win the series with a 10-1 victory in game two of a doubleheader on Saturday and an 8-3 victory on Sunday.
