STATESBORO, Ga. - After hitting .412 with two home runs and 10 RBI last week, Stryker Brown was named the Southern Conference's Player of the Week for Feb. 24.
Brown slugged .882 in Georgia Southern's five wins last week. He hit two doubles to go along with his two long balls and recorded a grand slam in the first inning of the second game of Saturday's doubleheader with Maryland-Eastern Shore.
The senior outfielder opened the week by going 1 for 4 with a double in the 4-3 win over Georgia Tech. Brown drove in three runs with a homer on Friday night and went one for three with a sacrifice fly in game two of the UMES series. He concluded the four-game series by going two for four with a double and two RBI on Sunday.
The award was the first for an Eagle hitter since 2011, when Victor Roache was named Player of the Week for the second time on April 18. Chris Beck was the last Eagle to win a weekly award and was named Pitcher of the Week on April 2, 2012.
Brown is currently hitting .414 with a team-best three home runs and 16 RBI in eight games this season.
Brown and the Eagles take their six game win streak and 7-1 record on the road Wednesday when they face the 8-0 Mercer Bears in Macon, Ga. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
