STATESBORO, Ga. - Atlanta Braves legend and two-time National League MVP Dale Murphy will be the featured speaker at the annual Evening with the All-Stars banquet on Friday, Jan. 30 at the Nessmith-Lane Conference Center on the campus of Georgia Southern University.
Murphy played 18 seasons in the big leagues with 15 coming in Atlanta. The Braves drafted Murphy in the 1974 draft with the 5th overall pick and two years later the BYU product made his MLB debut. After two short stints with the Braves, Murphy became a staple in the Atlanta lineup starting in 1978.
Murphy went on to a stellar career and was a seven-time All-Star, four-time Silver Slugger and five-time Gold Glove recipient. He owns a career .265 batting average with 398 home runs in 2180 games. Murphy also spent three years with the Philadelphia Phillies and was a member of the inaugural Colorado Rockies team in 1993.
Tickets for the banquet are $75 for adults and $50 for children 17 and under (includes autographed baseball). For large groups, companies or those wanting the ultimate banquet experience corporate tables are available for $800. A corporate table seats eight and includes two passes to a pre-dinner meet and greet with Murphy, two autographed baseballs and an autographed bat.
Third round selection of Colorado Rockies and three-year Eagle Sam Howard will return to Statesboro to share his experience in the minor leagues and the draft. A silent auction begins at 6:30 p.m. with dinner being served at 7:30 p.m.
