
Swimming and Diving Dominates Final Home Meet of the Season

STATESBORO, Ga.- Georgia Southern swimming and diving had a phenomenal meet this afternoon defeating Gardner-Webb 190-103 and University of North Florida 195-96 on senior day. Their last home meet of the season resulted in three broken records and two divers qualifying for zones.
"We had a great senior day and are happy that we sent them out with a win," said head coach Nathan Kellogg. "All of our seniors have had a tremendous impact on our program and will be missed. They have been great leaders and have set the bar for our team."
Starting off the meet, Christina Moran, Kristen Bates, Megan Heller, and Elaina Lanson took first in the 200 Medley Relay (1:46.14). First and second place in the 1650 Free went to Kylee Parsons and Amber Juncker. In the 200 Free, Rebecca Alves claimed second (1:56.35). Christina Moran broke the pool record in the 100 Backstroke (57.89) and Sarah Schwartz finished third(1:00.22). Seniors Kristen Bates and Megan Ostrom placed first and second in the 100 Breaststroke. Lauren Campbell swam the 200 Butterfly in 2:07.24, securing second place. Elaina Lanson dominated the 50 Free (23.70). In the 100 Free, Elaina Lanson cinched first (52.84) and Devan White took third (54.67). Christina Moran placed first in the 200 Backstroke, breaking the pool record with a time of 2:04.19. Kristen Bates posted first place in the 200 Breaststroke (2:20.91) and Megan Ostrom followed in second (2:26.10). Amber Juncker and Kylee Parsons finished first (5:08.28) and second (5:12.14) in the 500 Free. In the 100 Butterfly, Megan Heller claimed second (58.21).
The divers also had a great day in the pool. Emma Weisel placed first in the 3 meter dive with 286.80, breaking the pool record and qualifying her for zones. Senior Sara Meisenhelder took third in the 3 meter with 263.77, and is also qualified for zones. Meisenhelder also finished third on the 1 meter dive.
"I thought the divers dove extremely well today," said diving coach David Giambra. "Sara and Emma qualified for the zone meet and Emma set the pool record on 3m. This is the first time that two divers have qualified for the zone meet in school history. I thought all of the divers dove extremely well and I was really proud of them. We have had some great weeks of practice leading up to this meet and it was really nice to see everything come together at the meet. It was Sara's final home diving of her college career and it was great seeing her finish with such a great performance."
Overall, a fantastic meet for the Eagles. The Eagles next meet is January 31st-February 1st at the CCSA Duals in Davidson, NC, where they will swim against Davidson, Howard, Liberty, North Carolina A&T, and Radford.
