Stevenson Strong in One-Run Win

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Josh Stevenson allowed one run over six innings to help the Georgia Southern Eagles cap off an eight-game road trip with a 3-2 win over the Charleston Southern Buccaneers.
Matt McCall (S, 4) bounced back after allowing a ninth-inning homer to Harrison Wilkins to record the save. Stevenson (1-2) allowed five hits, three walks and struck out six over 80 pitches. The righthander stranded eight base runners, including two in the first inning. The win was his first of the season.
Georgia Southern (21-11) recorded 10 hits and walked 13 times but left 18 runners stranded. Ben Morgan walked four times and reached base in all seven plate appearances. Robbie Dodds led the team with three hits. Zac Lenns and Scooter Williams both tallied two hits each.
Charleston Southern (11-21) starter Chase Shelton (0-1) surrendered two runs on four hits and was tagged with his first loss of the season. Shelton allowed four hits and two walks over 1.2 innings. Stephen Leopard followed with 3.1 scoreless frames and left the bases loaded in the second inning.
The Eagles scored a first inning run on a bases loaded walk by Robbie Dodds. Scooter Williams started the inning with an infield single and scored after Shelton allowed his third walk of the frame.
GSU added a second run in the second inning with a sacrifice fly by Brent Pugh. Zac Lenns led off the inning with a double and reached third base on a ground out before scoring on the fly ball to right field.
The two teams traded a run in the sixth inning. Morgan scored from first base after stealing second base and a throwing error by the catcher trickled into left field. Stevenson allowed a lead off walk to Zack Hagaman in the bottom half of the frame, and John Faircloth plated the run with a double.
Baseball returns home for a three-game series this weekend. The Eagles will face The Citadel Bulldogs at 6 p.m. Friday, 5 p.m. Saturday and 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Promotions for the series include Guinness Book of World Records, 90s day and cowboy/cowgirl day.
Friday night GSU will give away 2,000 sunglasses and will attempt to set a new Guinness Book of World Record for most sunglasses worn at night. The football team will also be at the game signing autographs on the concourse, and Head Coach Jeff Monken will throw out the first pitch.
