Sam Howard (5-3) was tagged with the loss after surrendering seven runs on eight hits over four innings. Drew Johnson threw three scoreless frames and struck out four batters in relief.
The Mountaineers tallied 10 or more hits for the fourth-straight game and finished with 15 hits. Jaylin Davis recorded four hits, three runs and three RBIs, while Callaway plated five runs with two hits. The Eagles finished with seven hits, and T.D. Davis led the team with two base knocks.
Jaylin Davis drove in a lead off single by Hector Crespo in the first inning, and Davis scored a batter later on a sacrifice fly by Will Callaway. Appalachian State struck for three more runs in the third inning on three-straight two-out singles.
Georgia Southern scored four runs and took a 4-2 lead in the top of the third. Brent Pugh started the rally with a one-out walk, and Kyle Streicher followed with a single. Ben Morgan loaded the bases after drawing a walk. Stryker Brown grounded into a fielder's choice that scored the first run and an error by the first baseman allowed a second to cross the plate. After the Mountaineers scored three runs on a homer in the fifth and a solo run in the sixth inning, the Eagles loaded the bases in the eighth inning. However, GSU was only able to come up with one run after a pair of ground outs ended the inning. Pugh plated the run in the inning with a ground ball in the hole at short.
