
Swimming and Diving Move Up to Third Place at CCSA Championships

ATHENS, Ga. – The Georgia Southern Swimming and Diving team ranks third after day two of the CCSA Championships, moving up one spot from yesterday's standing. The team broke four school records in today's meet and had four athletes qualify for the finals in the 400 IM, 200 Free, 100 Breast and 100 Fly.
Today's best performance came from the 200 Medley Relay team made up of freshman Christina Moran and sophomores Megan Heller, Abbie Lavallin and Elaina Lanson when they finished second with a new GSU record time of 1:43.58. The relay squads were busy rewriting the Georgia Southern record books today as the 800 Free Relay team existing of Kylee Parsons, Rikki Babuka, Lindsay Mullican and Devan White accomplished the same feat, finishing fifth in 7:34.41.
Parsons continued her strong performance at her career first championships. The freshman earned her second podium spot in as many days after a tied for third place finish in the 200 Free, breaking her own school record from this morning's session.
Sophomores Babuka and Lavallin also excelled today. After qualifying for the 400 IM finals in seventh place with a personal best time of 4:28.15, Babuka finished in fourth place with another personal best of 4:26.36. Lavallin added points for the Eagles when she finished sixth in the 100 Breast finals with a time of 1:03.34.
Lanson finished out a dominating performance by the Eagles' sophomore class, finishing seventh in the 100 Back finals, tying her personal record of 56.06 that also she established this morning.
Another GSU record was broken this morning when Sarah Schwartz finished 11th in the 100 Fly and qualified for the consolation finals in the evening session where she placed seventh, good for a 15th overall finish.
Ten different Eagles advanced to the consolidation finals on day two of the CCSA Championships with Moran winning her heat in the 100 Back, establishing a new personal best of 56.74 for an overall ninth place finish. Megan Ostrom also set a new personal record in her heat of the 100 Breast "B" finals when she finished second, clocked in at 1:04.52, good for a tenth place overall. Mullican and Amber Juncker raced neck and neck in the 400 IM consolidations. Mullican finished first with a career best mark of 4:27.75 and Juncker came in right behind her with a time of 4:28.59.
The Eagles now stand just behind Liberty in Florida Gulf Coast with one more day of competition to go.
The championships conclude tomorrow with the 200 Back preliminaries starting at 10 a.m. and finals starting at 6 p.m.
