SPARTANBURG, S.C.- Georgia Southern women's tennis finished out their fall season with some great wins on the road. The Eagles competed in the Wofford Terrier Invite this past weekend against players from Western Carolina, Wofford, Mercer, Garner-Webb, Presbyterian, and UNC Asheville.
"This was a great tournament for us to end on," said head coach Amy Bonner. "The team competed so well all weekend and I was excited for them to close out the fall season on a high note. Paola, Jordana and Stephi each won their flights and we took two out of three doubles flights. The girls are playing well and most importantly coming together as a team."
Paola Garrido finished on top in the Gold Singles flight. She defeated Zoe Hamel (UNCA) in the first round (6-3, 6-4). Garrido moved on to compete against Garner-Webb's Yasmin Doost, and pulled off a solid win (6-1, 6-3.) In the final Garrido faced a SoCon opponent from Western Carolina, Stacia Kissell, and was able to bring home the victory (6-4, 6-1).
Jordana Klein also notched some wins for the Eagles. After a bye in the first round, she competed against Courtney Gardiner (Presbyterian College) and defeated her 6-0, 6-1. In the final round Klein overcame Ericka Rivero (UNCA) to win her flight (6-1, 6-2).
Stephanie Woods earned the title for the Eagles in the Black Singles flight. In the first round she defeated WCU's Nicole Nielly (6-4, 6-4), followed by a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Patricia Alves (Presbyterian). In the final round, Woods secured the win against Mercer's Danielle Jones (6-1, 6-1).
In doubles play, Eagles Paola Garrido and Stephanie Woods teamed up to defeat teams from Presbyterian, UNCA, and Wofford, winning their flight. The duo of Jordana Klein and Caitlin Kitchen also finished the weekend with some great wins for the Eagles. Klein and Kitchen overthrew teams from Presbyterian, Mercer, and UNCA, to take home the White Doubles flight title.
The Eagles hit the courts again January 25, 2014 at home against Stetson University.
