STATESBORO, Ga.- Georgia Southern women's tennis defeated the Presbyterian Blue Hose 7-0. The 2014 season debut at the Wallis Tennis Center was very successful for the Eagles.
""It was great to start the season with a win today," said head coach Amy Bonner. "There is a lot we need to work on as a team and individually, but it was great to be able to come away with a victory and hopefully some confidence as we begin our season. I was proud of our two newcomers for picking up their first victories today in singles and doubles. Both Daria and Giulia are proving to be great assets to the team and fierce competitors. I am also proud of my seniors and the leadership they've shown as we've jumped quickly into our season."
In singles play, senior Paola Garrido defeated Greer Ransom in a tiebreaker (6-0, 7-6(2), 10-5). Jordana Klein was victorious against Patricia Alves (6-1, 6-0). Newcomer Daria Vasekina earned her first win of the season, defeating Caroline Ferrari (5-7, 7-5, 10-6). Stephanie Woods claimed another win for the Eagles, beating Caroline DeLoach (4-6, 7-6(3), 10-5). The Eagles' other rookie Giulia Riepe defeated Madison Utberg (6-1, 6-0).
