For Openers
Georgia Southern finishes the regular season by playing host to Western Carolina Friday night and Appalachian State Saturday afternoon. The Eagles need a combination of two wins and a Furman loss to capture their second consecutive Southern Conference regular-season title. Georgia Southern and Furman are tied for first, but the Paladins own the tiebreaker, having swept the season series from the Eagles. Samford is in second place, a game behind, and the Bulldogs play host to Furman Friday night. The Paladins meet Chattanooga Sunday.
Regardless of its finish, Georgia Southern has clinched a spot in the eight-team SoCon Tournament Nov. 22-24, at Timmons Arena in Greenville, S.C.
The Eagles split a pair of matches last week, topping The Citadel 3-0 and falling 3-2 at Davidson, and are 2-2 in their last four. The Eagles are 11-2 in Hanner Fieldhouse this season.
Western Carolina is coming off a 3-0 home victory over Chattanooga, but is 1-4 in its last five. Appalachian State has won five of its last six and is coming off a 3-0 win over the Mocs as well. Georgia Southern topped both the Mountaineers and the Catamounts on the road earlier this season, defeating App 3-2 and Western Carolina 3-0.
