STATESBORO– After the Eagles' strong weekend in Jacksonville, both
Kirsten Barrett (Setter) and
Maddie Cugino (Defensive) earned Sun Belt weekly honors for the first weekend of the season, the league announced Tuesday.
Barrett, who earned Setter of the Week honors three times in 2024, kicked off 2025 by winning it after leading the conference in aces (11), aces per set (1.22) and assists per set (9.11) during the 2-0 slate.
On Friday, she broke the Georgia Southern four-set record by recording nine aces against North Florida, nearing a triple-double with 42 assists and eight digs. She followed with her first double-double of the season on Saturday, recording 40 assists and a career-high 15 digs. She previously earned Setter of the Week honors in weeks 2, 3 and 6 in 2024.
In her first weekend as an Eagle, Cugino made a strong impact, recording a career-best 25 digs in each game and leading the conference with a 5.56 digs per set mark after the two games. The Gonzaga transfer earns her first career weekly honor in any conference and starts her Eagles career on the right foot.
The Eagles will host The Citadel tonight at 6:00 p.m.
