Azura Robillard
2nd Lt., US Army
A four-year member of the Georgia Southern Track and Field program... Competed in all aspects of the program... Ran cross country, hurdles, distance and threw the Javelin.
Q: What are you doing for the army?
AR: "Right now I am going to field artillery. I am a branch detail and my main branch is military intelligence. I will be doing field artillery until I am captain promotable. Right now I am going through the basic officer leadership course."
Q: How did your experience as a student-athlete at Georgia Southern prepare you for life after college?
AR: "I feel like there is almost a direct correlation between being a student-athlete and what we do in the army. It is very regimented and there are specific times when you do things. Having a student-athlete schedule in college prepared me for everything that I have experienced so far in the army. The physical performance side was a lot easier for me because I was already use to those rigorous workouts as a student-athlete."
Q: Why did you choose this career path?
AR: "My brother was a Ranger and got out of the army a couple of years ago. I saw what the army did for him and the benefits it provided. I was looking into pursuing my graduate degree and getting a doctorate in physical therapy. That is how I started looking into this career path, but now that I am in the military I want to make this a career."
Q: What brought you to Georgia Southern?
AR: "I was recruited pretty late in the summer. I took one recruiting visit and I fell in love with the campus and the coaches. I bought into everything that my coach told me about Georgia Southern. It just seemed like a great fit for me. It was far enough away from home, and I really loved everything about the atmosphere of Georgia Southern."
