DURHAM, N.C. - Named to his third Freshman All-American team, Chase Griffin was selected to Baseball America's Freshman All-America team Wednesday night.
Griffin, a second-team selection, finished the 2012 season with a team-best 10 home runs. The Leesburg, Ga., native was also second on the team with a .320 batting average and 42 RBIs.
The freshman catcher got off to a slow start and hit just .152 with one long ball in the first 17 games but broke out for three hits and four RBI on March 17th against UNCG. Griffin went on to hit a team-best .413 with nine home runs and 24 RBI over the next 21 games.
Griffin previously received this honor in June from both the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and Collegiate Baseball. He is also the first freshman since Eric Phillips and the only GSU catcher to receive Freshman All-American honors.
