Griffin Earns Second Freshman All-American Award

LYNCHBURG, Va. - For the second time this season, Chase Griffin was named a Freshman All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association on Monday. The Leesburg, Ga., native was tabbed to the first team by a vote of the memberships writers, broadcasters and publicists.
Griffin was previously named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball last week and earned his second such honor after hitting .320 with 10 doubles, 10 home runs and 42 RBIs. He also is the first Eagle freshman since Steve Walson in 1996 to reach double figures.
Griffin not only led the team with that total but led all freshmen in Division I baseball for most of the season. He hit 9 of his 10 home runs during a stretch of 20 games spanning from March 17th to April 15th.
Griffin is the first freshman since Eric Phillips and the only GSU catcher to receive Freshman All-American honors.
