Statesboro, Ga. — The Georgia Southern baseball team (14-37, 6-20 SBC) fell in the second half of the Friday doubleheader (May 8th) to Georgia State (24-26, 12-14 SBC) by a 10-5 margin.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

After Southern left two on in their first chance with the bats, Georgia State capitalized in their second inning. After a strikeout, two singles and a double from the Panthers' Haber gave them a 2-0 lead.
The Eagles responded in their second inning by Jonathan Jaime and Nico Senese singles to put them both in scoring position. After a walk to load the bags, Bennett Edwards took the second walk in a row to even the contest at two. Later in the inning, Brady Christman slashed a single through the right side to nab two RBIs, giving the Eagles a 4-2 lead.
After allowing the two runs, Will Holder settled in on the mound. He wouldn't allow a run across in the next three innings, including the fifth and sixth frames ending on a double play.
In the Panthers' seventh, State went for four singles that included RBIs for Bailey and Beverley for the road squad to even up the game up four all.
In the top of the eighth, the Panthers used four singles, a double and an Eagle error to get five runs across and extend their lead to 9-4.
In the top of the ninth with one away after a strikeout, the first baseman Carlson slammed a solo shot to left-center field to put State into the double digits, 10-4.
In their last chance with the bats, the Eagles got some life from the bottom of their order as Nico Senese placed a double into the gap before he was driven home by Grant Jordan with his single to make it 10-5.

NOTES:

Will Holder went five full innings on the night while also setting a new career high with his five strikeouts.
Jordan's RBI-single in the ninth was just his seventh RBI all season and first since April 28th against Charleston Southern.
