Men's Basketball Visits Western Carolina on Saturday

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Men's Basketball returns from a week of much-needed rest for a Saturday afternoon matinee at Western Carolina. The game begins at 2 p.m. and can be heard across the Georgia Southern Radio Network with Chris Blair and Frank Kerns calling all the action.
In Georgia Southern's last outing, Jelani Hewitt (Miramar, Fla.) made a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer to lift the Eagles to a 75-72 victory. The trey gave Hewitt 16 points on the night as he shared game-high scoring honors with Ben Drayton III (St. Marys, Ga.).
SoCon Player of the Year Candidate Eric Ferguson (Statesboro, Ga.) scored 15 against the Mocs and is averaging 15.8 points per game this season. Against league opposition, Ferguson is pouring in 16.7 points per game.
Last season the Catamounts took an 87-51 win in Statesboro for their second-straight victory over the Eagles. Ferguson scored 21 points while Tyler Sumler scored 23 for the Catamounts as a part of his All-SoCon Freshman Team performance a year ago.
Sumler and Harouna Mutombo each have 12.8 points per game to lead WCU, while Keaton Cole has 11.5 points per game and Brandon Boggs closes out the Catamounts' double-digit scorers with 10.7 points per game. WCU took a 82-76 victory over Chattanooga on Thursday night to snap a four-game losing streak.
Following Saturday's game, Georgia Southern returns home for a pair of SoCon South showdowns against Furman and Wofford. The Eagles face the Paladins on Monday night at 7:30 p.m. and host Wofford on Thursday, February 9th, at 7 p.m.
