Brooke Red Named SoCon Pitcher of the Week

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Softball pitcher Brooke Red has been named Pitcher of the Week by the Southern Conference for games played between February 13th and 19th. The honor is the 30th Pitcher of the Week award in school history and the earliest award earned in a season.
Red, a native of Warner-Robins, Ga., picked up her first collegiate victory against Georgia State on Wednesday afternoon (February 15th). She went six innings and allowed just three hits and one unearned run.
On Saturday (February 18th), Red tossed a two-hit shutout against Drake as the Eagles powered to a 2-0 victory. It was the second two-hitter this season from the Eagles who pitched their first shutout against the Bulldogs.
In the final game of the weekend, Red got the Eagles out of a jam in the sixth inning against USF. She can in with runners on base and retired the final two outs of the frame to keep the deficit at two runs going into the seventh inning.
Overall, Red pitched 13.2 innings in the week without allowing an earned run to lower her season ERA to 0.60. She allowed five hits for a .114 opponent batting average to go with six strikeouts.
