STATESBORO, Ga. - The awards continue to roll in for Chris Beck and Victor Roache, who were named Preseason All-Americans by CollegeBaseballInsider.com just days before the start of the 2012 season. Roache was selected to the First Team, while Beck was a Second Team honoree by the website.
Beck was named the SoCon's Preseason Pitcher of the Year last week and was a Louisville Slugger TPX Preseason All-American by Collegiate Baseball earlier in the preseason. The Jefferson, Ga., led the Southern Conference in wins with 9, struck out a league-best 109 batters and pitched a complete game shutout on two-days rest to earn the Eagles the 2011 SoCon Tournament Title.
Roache was earned his third preseason All-American Award after hitting .326/.438/.778 with a NCAA best 30 home runs. The junior outfielder had a breakout season last year which didn't end with the Columbia Regional. The Ypsilanti, Mich., native was a participant in the Cape Cod League All-Star Game and the College Baseball Home Run Derby.
The 2012 season opens on Friday at 6 p.m. with a three-game series against UT Martin. The Eagles open with eight-straight games at J.I. Clements Stadium before traveling to North Florida on March 1st.
Season tickets for the 2012 baseball season are still on sale and are just $70 for a full slate of games and $100 for a reserved seat. To order tickets to baseball or any Georgia Southern athletic event call 1-800-GSU-WINS.
