AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Women’s Tennis team successfully wrapped up the first of three days at the Augusta Challenge in Augusta, Ga. All three doubles pairings beat their opponents in three different flights.
“I was proud of the effort and team work that came together as we played doubles,” Head Coach Amy Bonner said.
All three doubles teams showed dominance on Friday evening. In Flight A junior Paola Garrido (Vigo, Spain) teamed up with classmate Caitlin Kitchen (Kennesaw, Ga.) to secure an 8-6 win over Wofford College’s Guinn Garcia and Sarah Evans. The senior freshman duo of Natalie Maffett (Rome, Ga.) and Stephanie Woods (John’s Creek, Ga.) also proved to be a successful match-up as they beat the Wofford College tandem of Julia Paulson and Lucy Schmerhorn 8-5 in Flight B. In Flight C sophomore classmates Jordana Klein (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Alexis Prickett (Charleston, S.C.) made sure to complete the perfect day by beating Wofford College’s Emily Przystawski and Mareli Sanchez 8-5.
“The confidence the girls brought with them from last weekend was evident in the way we played,” Bonner said. “We are looking forward to a strong performance tomorrow.”
The Eagles continue the tournament tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. with another round of doubles play in their respective A, B and C flights. Singles play starts at 10:30 a.m.
