Georgia Southern women's tennis hosts Marshall on Saturday at 10 AM for Senior Day
STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern women's tennis battled throughout the afternoon but ultimately fell to App State, 4-0, on Friday morning at the Wallis Tennis Center.
The Eagles move to 7-10 on the season with the loss, while the Mountaineers improve to 9-10 overall.
The match opened with doubles play, where Georgia Southern competed closely across all three courts despite App State claiming the early point. On court one, Angelina Mihajlovic and Evelyn
Warkentin dropped a hard fought 6-3 decision to Ruby Broadbent and Savannah DadaMascoll in the first match to finish. Shortly after, Mackenzie Leopold and Lisen Rinman fell 6-4 at No. 2
doubles to Naledi Manyube and Taya Powell, giving App State the doubles advantage. The No. 3 pair of Franzi Heinemann and Nanaka Kijima battled well, trailing just 5-4 before their match went unfinished.
In singles, the Eagles continued to fight, with Franzi Heinemann leading the way at No. 3 singles. She took the opening set 7-5 and held a dominant 5-1 lead in the second before play was stopped. Nanaka Kijima also got off to a strong start at No. 6, cruising to a 6-1 first-set win and staying within reach late in the second set. App State secured its points with straight-set wins at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 5 singles. On court four, the Mountaineers took the first set 6-4, while the second set was tied at 6-6 when play was called.
Georgia Southern returns to the courts on Saturday, April 4, for Senior Day, where the Eagles will honor its lone senior, Nanaka Kijima, ahead of a 10 a.m. match at the Wallis Tennis Center.
