Eric Phillips Added to Brooks Wallace Award Watch List

LUBBOCK, Texas - Georgia Southern Baseball's Eric Phillips (Carrollton, Ga.) was named to the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List as announced by the College Baseball Foundation. Phillips is one of 25 selected as a quarterfinalist for the award that honors the nation's top shortstop. The junior is the only player from the Southern Conference on the list.
Phillips is leading the Southern Conference with a .429 batting average. He has hit in every game but five this season and has 78 hits in 182 at-bats this season. The shortstop has committed only nine errors in 168 chances this year.
The Brooks Wallace Award will be presented on July 3rd in Lubbock, Texas. The award ceremony is a part of the College Baseball Hall of Fame's Night of Champions.
"These players highlight another outstanding group of shortstops," said Tyler Young, Wallace Award co-chair. "The players feature very good offensive statistics combined with outstanding defense."
Fifteen conferences are represented on the list. The ACC and SEC have the most players on the watch list with four each. The Eagles have faced two of other shortstops on the list. Jacob Esch from Georgia Tech and Joe Panik from St. John's both played in J.I. Clements Stadium this season.
