Golden Spikes Committee Selects Victor Roache as a Semifinalist for National Award

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Golden Spikes committee has selected Georgia Southern Baseball's Victor Roache as one of 30 semifinalists for prestigious Player of the Year Award. Roache leads the NCAA with 30 home runs and is hitting .327 with a .789 slugging percentage this year.
The sophomore outfielder, who has helped the Eagles to a NCAA Tournament Regional, was recently a GSA spotlight on the Golden Spikes Award's website. GSU won the 2011 Southern Conference Tournament with a 1-0 shutout of Samford at Joe Riley Park in Charleston, S.C. on Sunday, May 29th.
The Ypsilanti, Mich., native set single-season and Southern Conference home run marks and ended the regular season with 29 long balls. He passed Ben Abner of Georgia Southern for the school record and Ben Waring of Wofford for the SoCon record, both hit 27 homers in their respective seasons. He hit his 30th big fly during the Eagles SoCon Championship run.
Roache received a number of awards from the Southern Conference including Player of the Year by both the league's coaches and media members. He was also named Player of the Month for April after hitting 15 home runs that month.
