Football Program Records Best-Ever Team GPA

STATESBORO, Ga. - While Georgia Southern Football's 10-win season and 2010 NCAA FCS playoff appearance provided fans with many highlights, none could be more important than the records set by the Eagles in the classroom this year. The Eagle Football team posted a program-best 2.65 grade point average for the Spring 2011 semester. The Georgia Southern Football players also set the standard during the 2010-2011 academic year with a best-ever 2.53 team GPA which includes both the fall and spring semesters.

More than 30 football players earned grade point averages of 3.0 or higher with three men earning perfect 4.0 GPAs during the spring semester for President's List honors. Eight were included on the Dean's List for GPAs above 3.5.

"Academic success is emphasized every day with our players," said Georgia Southern Head Coach Jeff Monken. "As a team, they earned the best GPA in the history of our program which is a testament to their hard work in the classroom, in the library and in study hall. I'm so proud of them. I want to thank our academic support team, Keith Roughton, Matt Lombardi and Daryl Evans, as their dedication and encouragement were key to this achievement."
