KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Former Georgia Southern starting pitcher Everett Teaford was called up to major league's Kansas City Royals early this morning after relief pitcher Vin Mazzaro was optioned to class-AAA last night.
In 10 games at Omaha this season, Teaford is 2-1 with a 3.04 ERA but has made only three starts in case the Royals need a relief pitcher. His role in the bullpen has yet to be determined after starting pitcher Kyle Davis left the game in the first inning with an apparent injury.
A two-time All-Southern Conference First Team selection, Teaford ranks eighth all-time at Georgia Southern with 26 career victories. In his final season with the Eagles in 2006, he went 10-4 with a 3.96 ERA. Teaford started 16 games that season, threw four complete games and held opposing hitters to a .244 batting average.
