BECKLEY, W.Va. - Resumption of game one of the series between Georgia Southern (18-12) and Marshall (10-17) has been delayed until Sunday at 11:05 a.m. Severe thunderstorm warnings in the area delayed the start of Saturday's games and it was eventually decided to play on Sunday. Games one and two will be played in a Sunday doubleheader starting at 11:05 a.m.
Four Eagle batters went to the plate in the top of the first inning on Friday night before lightning was spotted in the area. Game one will resume with a runner on second base and two outs in the top of the first inning, and game two will follow shortly after the conclusion of the first game.
Georgia Southern got off to a quick start, scoring a run off an Eric Phillips' (Carrollton, Ga.) single up the middle. Shawn Payne (Stone Mountain, Ga.) smoked the first pitch he saw from Aaron Blair down the left field line for a double. Ben Morgan (Evans, Ga.) dropped down a sacrifice bunt to move him to third base before the Phillips' hit.
Any changes to the start times on Sunday will be announced on the Georgia Southern's Facebook fan page at facebook.com/GSAthletics and Twitter page at Twitter.com/GSAthletics as well as GeorgiaSouthernEagles.com. The games will be played at Epling Stadium in Beckley, W.Va.
Georgia Southern Baseball games can be heard live on Eagle 102.9 FM and are also available online at GeorgiaSouthernEagles.com/Eaglevision with broadcasts beginning 30 minutes prior to first pitch. Ryan Chambers of the Georgia Southern Radio Network will call all the action.
