Melian Puigventos Wins 10th-Straight Match

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Georgia Southern Men's Tennis team fell behind early against UNC Greensboro and could not recover, losing to the Spartans 6-1. The Eagles move to 9-8 overall and 2-3 in Southern Conference play while UNCG extends its record to 12-4 on the season, 5-1 in the league.
'When you make as many unforced errors as we did today, you aren't going to be able to stay in SoCon matches for very long," said Head Coach Nick Zieziula. "Tomorrow we have a great opportunity to redeem ourselves at Davidson. We need to start off much sharper."
UNC Greensboro swept doubles play to take a one-point advantage over the Eagles to start singles action. Georgia Southern, battling winds of up to 30 mph, could not make the proper adjustments to shift the momentum away from the Spartans. UNCG went on to win five of the six singles matches, clinching the victory at the No. 2 seed.
Juan Melian Puigventos (Las Palmas De Las Canaria, Spain) continued to shine for Georgia Southern, cruising past the Spartans' Orcun Seyrek in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. The victory kept Melian Puigventos' 10-win match streak intact and moved him to 15-1 on the season. The sophomore now has a career record of 29-7.
The Eagles look to rebound on Sunday, April 3rd, as the team faces Davidson for a 1 p.m. SoCon match at the Covington Tennis Courts.
