Chris Beck Named Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Georgia Southern pitching staff picked up its first honor of the 2011 season after the Southern Conference office named Chris Beck (Jefferson, Ga.) SoCon Pitcher of the Week for all games played March 7-13th. Beck started two games last week and went 1-0 with a 1.00 ERA while striking out 13 opposing batters.
Beck started the mid-week game with #1 Florida and pitched two scoreless innings, allowing a hit and striking out four batters. He left the game in a scoreless 0-0 tie and helped set the tone for the eventual 7-0 Eagle victory.
The sophomore pitcher threw a strong seven innings on Friday night against Furman to earn his second win of the season. He allowed one run on five hits and struck out 13 batters in his fifth start of the season. Beck is 2-0 with a 1.73 ERA on the year and has struck out a league-leading 35 hitters.
