Baseball Signs Eight for 2013 Class

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Baseball team signed eight players for the 2013 class in the fall signing period. Catcher and corner infielder Michael McClellan headlines a class that includes five pitchers and three position players. Six of the eight hail from the state of Georgia and the other two join the team from Florida.
The signees include Michael McClellan, Cole Watson, Teft Hill, Douglas Nobles, Zach Schlosser, Evan Challenger, Jason Richman and Walker White.
McClellan was ranked by Perfect Game as the 33rd player in the state of Georgia and 46th overall at his position. The McDonough native hit .403 last season for Union Grove and was named to the Henry Daily Herald's All-Southern Crescent Baseball First Team. He also played summer ball for the Orlando Scorpions with fellow signee Teft Hill.
The 84th ranked player in the state of Florida, Hill moved to the state in 2002 from Colorado. He played for Cypress Lake High School in Ft. Myers, Fla., where he posted a .380 batting average and an on-base percentage above .500 last year.
Watson is the 46th ranked middle infielder by Perfect Game and hails form Marietta. He currently plays for Woodstock High School and has been playing the sport since he was four years old. Watson is an Under Armor Pre-Season All American and hit .402 with three dingers and 18 stolen bases last season.
Nobles is a two-way player from Camilla, Ga., where attended Westwood High School. As a pitcher he went 5-4 and tossed a no-hitter in the second round of the GISA State Playoffs. At the plate Nobles hit .506 and played a variety of positions on the infield including first base, catcher, shortstop and third base.
Schlosser, a right-handed pitcher from Suwanne, Ga., went 2-1 with 38 strikeout in 28 innings last season at Labmert High School. He also hit .382 with five homeruns while playing the middle infield.
A left-handed pitcher from Mount Dora, Fla., Challenger led Mount Dora High School to their first-ever appearance in the state final four tournament. He played all four years of varsity baseball under head coach Frank Scott.
Richman was named to the All-Region team after Milton High School won two regional championships. A 6A Dugout Club Player of the Week, he has lettered on the varsity team two times.
A West Georgia transfer, White will join the squad next season after a year at South Georgia College. He played for Coffee High School in Douglas, Ga., where he led the team with 8 wins and 76 strikeouts. White went 0-3 with 9.36 ERA in 25 innings with the Wolves last season.
